For the anterior jaw, one-piece, transmucosal implants feature a contoured abutment section that requires little or no preparation, and a multithreaded tapered body that can enhance stability in hard or soft bone. When a two-piece system is warranted, the Hex-Lock® Contour Abutment features the same prepared geometry for simple, esthetic restorations. The lecture and workshop will focus on simplifying your surgical and prosthetic techniques, specifically for anterior single tooth replacement with the Zimmer one-piece dental implant. The past few years he has been the Director of the graduate Periodontology and Implantology residency program at the University of British Columbia. Currently, he serves as Director of the Oral Implantology Program for the Periodontics residency program at UBC and he serves as a consultant in implant surgery/ prosthetics for the Veteran’s Administration Hospitals in California. Seminar Description: Implant outcome in poor quality bone or sites where site development is limited often necessitates delayed healing times and multiple staged procedures. The use of the fluoride modified Fixture MicroThread OsseoSpeed™ dental implant system in poor quality bone has been documented in formal multicenter clinical studies documenting excellent clinical results. In addition to the osseous tissue response, there are many times though when gingival or mucosal tissue varies in shape or architecture in the transmucosal region. This is especially true in cases of immediate placement in the extraction sockets in the anterior esthetic zone. Further, the connective tissue and junctional epithelial seal that naturally forms around prosthetic implant abutments depends on the biomechanical stability of the implant-to-abutment interface and supra-crestal abutment surface area allowing the establishment of a stable biological seal. There are many clinical situations where the clinician desires to alter the shape and contour of the restorative margin and therefore the use of a scalloped-shaped abutment provides predictable esthetics and support of the adjacent soft tissue. She is currently Vice-President of the Central District, AAID, and co-Chairman of the 9th annual ICOI/IPS symposium in Montreal. Seminar Description: Long-term clinical success in implant dentistry begins with identifying the key elements of an ideal implant site for esthetics and function. Diagnosis and treatment planning are considered fundamental for success in implantology. In an “instant gratification” society such as ours, there is a demand for the practitioner to deliver immediate, high-end, lifetime guaranteed results. This may invariably lead to compromised outcomes for the patient, as the keystones of implant success often get overlooked by the desire to deliver treatment expeditiously. This lecture aims to provide the clinician with the data necessary to make choices in decision making as it pertains to diagnosis, treatment planning, site development, implant placement and restoration. This session promises to be an edifying experience for any clinician involved in the growing field of implant dentistry. Sponsor: BioHorizons |
